2007-06-22 :: Quick CC Guide, 12 days to Origins - 06-22-07

Very busy over here in the run up time to Origins. Arcadian talks about it more. Check out the Character Creation Guide which has been fully completed just in Time for Origins. If you are going to be down at Origins then be sure to sign up for one of our games. Check out our Origins Prep Page for more information. Link heavy today aren't we?

2007-06-14 :: Cyrus Downloads, 21 days to Origins - 06-14-07

There are new things up in the Cyrus downloads section including a character sheet back with fillable forms for customization. 21 days to Origins 2007. We have a better than expected turnout at our games so far, and we want you to sign up for the remaining slots. So if you are at Origins then go check out our Origins page and come check out a demo.

2007-06-01 :: Big Things, Level 0 Guide Available - 06-01-07

Big things have been going on. The Level 0 Guide (Which many of you doubted even existed!) is now available. The final design isn't implemented yet, but the guides are up while the design is being forced in.

In getting ready for Origins we have placed a few ads to our Origins Prep page out there. Response hasn't been bad, and we are getting excited for from now.

2007-05-18 :: Email Server Problems Fixed - 05-23-07

We were having some problems with our email server, so we changed it. The email provided with our domain didn't have the greatest interface or reliability, so we switched to a different email provider. This offers us a lot more flexibility.

We added a new general contact email contact@silvervinegames.com to replace our old one.

We are updating the development team pages with email addresses.

2007-05-18 :: Origins, Playtesting offer, and New Mail Group - 05-18-07

Origins prep work is almost done. There are a few things left to do, and a few of the materials which are being finished up for pre-origins. Check out the Origins page to see what new things are coming up. Also, if you visit Treasure Tables, and their forums, you might find a special offer and a chance to get a free pdf advance copy of the latest book. Check it out.

Last thing: New public mail announcement group.

2007-05-01 :: Beta Book 9.1 - Book Freeze 05-01-07

We've been real busy working towards getting stuff off the ground and ready for origins. It feels like we are sha-lum-phing along at light speed though. We released the beta 9.1 edition. It is up on Lulu for anyone who wants to buy it at cost. We've also got a few new things in the downloads section, and we've updated the character sheet. Once the books arrive we will send down the Ziggurat Con shipment with all the copies of the book for them to give away as prizes. Level 0 Guide, as well as the Skimpy Character Creation guide are being finished up for Origins, so all is going well . . . just waiting for the other shoe to drop . . . .

2007-04-23 :: Wheels Keep Grinding, Ziggurat - con 04-23-07

It's been covered everywhere else, but you should go check out the GAMING CONVENTION IN IRAQ. It is at Tamil air force base for the troops, and Silvervine is sending some dice, books, and CD/PDF copies of the book so that they have something to play. It isn't like they aren't getting donations from bigger and better companies, but it is a cool idea and they should get some cool stuff out of this. Even if our stuff is only used as prizes, well rock on.

In other news the wheels have been grinding along. We have a lot of stuff going on under the hood. Changed the armor system a bit, been tweaking the magic system, and general improvements thanks to play tests. Getting ready for Origins in July, and we are hoping to have a great showing there. Look for more soon.

2007-04-11 :: Working on New Versions, Fun Stuff Galore 04-11-07

But this is all we are giving you. Seriously so much has been going on. We've jumped version of the book (from 9.06 to 9.09), there are some pretty major changes, and we are getting ready for origins. Part of our origins prep was ordering d10 dice. In the quest to get enough we found information on the Item #'s for them. So, in a bid of goodwill to local gaming stores we compiled a list of all the Alliance Distributer (the biggest gaming store distributer) d10 order numbers. Need dice for a SVG game? Get the list, find what you want, take the item number to your FLGS and they can probably get you some. Check them out in the downloads

2007-04-06 :: Updated Character Sheets 04-06-07

Quick update. Just wanted to let people know that we updated some of our character sheets. Made the samples (few that there were) contingent with the new system. I also added in a "treat". In order to show how diverse the system is, or how well you can mold it to other styles I added in (and will be adding more in) some characters from 8-bit Theater. Fighter McWarrior and Red Mage Statscowski coming soon. Check it all out here.

2007-03-29 :: Something New in Downloads 03-29-07

Got something kind of new up in the downloads. A generic template to use for describing areas. Martin made it a post over at Treasure Tables. There are templates from them there as Index cards, and as a page template. Check it out. Downloads

2007-03-22 :: Quick updates about nothing special 03-22-07

There is always a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes, and very little of it is newsworthy. Just thought I'd put something up to keep this updated.

  • Currently Revamping parts of the book.
  • Brought back someone to the project who will probably work as an editor and clean up a lot of it. We just need to work out a better schedule so the editing snafu that happened last time doesn't repeat itself. (The Snafu was that our editor got overzealous and edited the whole book while most of it was getting re-written.)
  • Alec is running a playtest/pre-origins session.
  • Kotaku rocks, and I may gank their night note/day note idea.
  • Oh yeah, if you like bunnies (like Frederick) check out http://digitalpimponline.com/tvb/. If you like turtles then you never read this . . . .

We promise we'll have better stuff for you next time.

2007-02-28 :: Security ogres are on the loose, and John has an announcement 02/28/07

So we've done a little web work this morning, updated some stuff and worked on the backend. We've put in some security ogres, and updated the contact page. Now you can email us and say hey. Also John was ranting about something being done, who knows. No one listens to him anyways. Go check out his journal if you really care. Something about level something good?

2007-02-22 :: Some praise for Silvervine, Go Us 02/22/07

"I've just been visiting the website and, I gotta say, I am really impressed. I first was interested in the history of the land so I read all of the histories. I loved the stories. The wars and the details about how the creatures came about, especially the Orcs from Elves and the Goblins from Feychyldren. You have a very creative imagination. I also wish to express my amazement about the website itself. It was very well done and easy to navigate through. The pictures are really great. (My favorite is the dark elves.) I also took a venture over to lulu and looked at the rpg book. I was ....WOW! I can't believe it! It is very impressive."
- Rusty Alderman, author of Passing of the First World
Amazon Link for Passing of the First World

So, in my ever going, fatalistically stupid, quest for honesty I'll shed some light on the comments here. Matt was speaking with Rusty about the world of Cyrus and pointed him over to the website. Rusty sent Matt the comments in an email after seeing it. I don't know if rusty looked at all inside the RPG book (I'm assuming not, unless matt sent him a copy of that, but I'll be sending him a copy so he can see our beta work), but I do know he got to see Matt's rough drafts and work on the novel. Matt's writing is fantastic by the way. Every time I get back into the world of Cyrus, I go through it. So thanks for the comments Rusty! Go check out Rusty's book, over at
Boone Books, or at Amazon.

2007-02-07 :: Preparations for Origins, Beta 9.0x might see light to public testers 02/07/07

Most of our recent energy has been in clearing away some things, doing some housecleaning, getting paperwork and other legal stuff out of the way, and getting ready for Origins. We're trying to make an impressive showing, and come May we might be doing some advertising for Pre-origins. In getting ready for that I hope to have the Level 0 out before Origins, as well as making some editions of the beta 9.0x book available as a free password protected PDF to some beta testers. The only requirements would be to fill out a feedback form. Look for more information as it becomes available.

2007-01-22 :: Origins Ho! 01-22-07

We've got the origins stuff sorted out, all set up and looking forward to it. Ryan's flub (Ryan: Shut up about that already!!!!) was corrected, and we proofread our final submissions sheet. I think we actually spurred the origins group into getting their stuff on the site going. Might have been the first in the door, though we probably weren't and I'm just wishful thinking. At any rate we have a great lineup and schedule at Origins. There are a lot of CC and Intro sessions and a lot of games to be run there. I'm going to look at some options for advertising. Looks like want it or not we will be showing SVG to the public soon. In truth though I think I want to aim for debuting at Obercon. Alec and I are each running games there, and setting up to do a demo beforehand. Kind of a test run. That is the end of February though, so it means we will have to get our asses in gear.

2007-01-16 :: Aye Aye Aye! The Flub that ate san-francisco 01-16-07

If you need to, blame Ryan for this one. (Ryan: My fault completely). So we are prepping for origins 2007, and we sent in the submission form for our events. For our demo sessions we originally wrote a description of:

Buffed up Bard? Armored Mage? Sneaky Paladin? Problems in other systems. Not in Silvervine. See what you’ve been missing with the Silvervine demo and character creation.

Tweaking to fit the word order left us with

Buffed up Bard? Armored Mage? Sneaky Paladin? Not in Silvervine. See what you’ve been missing with the Silvervine demo and character creation.

That was what we put for our demo description text. Yahh!! Stupid Ryan, no food for you tonight. So he caught it immediately (Ryan: Thank goodness for anal retentiveness. ) and sent a corrected submission, but still . . . stupid stupid Ryan. Le sigh.

2007-01-04 :: Sample Characters, Site reworking, Beta Book 01-04-07

We've put something up in the sample characters section. We will be updating that more tonight, once we have some of the sample characters formatted by the new system. All of our copies of the book have shipped so we expect to be seeing those soon. We will be doing a little re-working of the site today and tomorrow. Looked through and realized how many grammar errors there were.

2007-01-01 :: Happy New Year 01-01-07

New Year, new playtest book, new possibilities.
