If you ever encounter an elf who bears a strange set of leather and blankets and a flute of ornate design then you have most certainly met one of the most privileged elves. The equipment they carry is for the mounting of the mystical Kanji cat. The kanji (named after their fluid and graceful movements that remind Clavians of their symbol writing system) are mystical elven cats who inhabit woods across the world. Kanji will not submit themselves to be owned by anyone or anything, even the divine elven blooded races. They will however lend their talents to elves who prove themselves worthy of spirit. Kanji are called by mystical flutes which echo throughout the spirit world causing vibrations that bring the nearest kanji to hear the elves request. The kanji will then allow itself to be mounted if the elf is able to provide a proper saddle for the cats comfort. It will bear the elf at lighning speed to his destination and will remain only if the elf treats it respectfully and well. Some rare cases have been reported of kanji permanently bonding to an elven companion, though the elf must prove himself extremely worthy.
