People have had a fear of the dark since their earliest days. The armies of Maingth were unusally cruel to the races, tormenting and torturing them endlessly. Many of these problems and fears have been excised in stories and tales of monsters. Many of those stories are true. One which has never been verified but which has a foothold in the minds of the people is that of the Vampyre. The story of the Vampyre first started with count Vlad Telasia in Belcraft. Though well respected by the people it was said he lost all motivation to his endeveaors after his only son died in the Andred-Crow war. A demon of red skin, with blood boiling from within was said to have approached him late at night in his home. The demon offerred him the chance to take vengance on those who had been responsible for his sons death. Gleefully Count Telasia agreed to the demons deal and followed the demon's instructions to bite off his tail in order to seal the pact. The count rode out the next month and decimated legions of Andred soldiers on his own. He was found at the end of the carnage covered in and imbibing the blood of his enemies. He was heard to have muttered the words
"Eat the Tail Pay the cost, must replace the blood I've lost".
As time went on Telasia became infatuated with corpses and bodies. He brought cows to his chambers to be mutilated and had all things cleaned the next morning while he slept upon the wooden slabs in his cellar. Rumours sprung up like wildfire. Count Telasia was said to have offerred his blood to his servants, claiming it would give them great power. Most all of the servants refused, the few who did were said to have died of horrible diseases later on. The last sighting of count Telasia was said to have been in a graveyard. He was digging up the bodies of his deceased servants. He was described as "wearing a brown overcoat, stained and dripping with something of a deep red color. From beneath the coat a long red rope was swaying, moving about as he walked but not with him, just . . . on it's own."
