Magus Keep

Magus Keep: the first hallowed halls of Taeos. So called because it was the first center of the church after the GodWars. It was originally created to be a stronghold for the Starkindlers and was built sturdy out of marble and stone. Once the defenses of the keep were established the interior of Magus Keep was built and sculpted to give honor to Taeos and the Starkindlers' ally, Jellaludin. Spires of stone and glass were built at the corners of the Second Temple and have stained glass windows at the tops. The effect is that if you stand inside one of the spires, light envelopes you and bathes you in all the colors of creation. The Starkindlers used these windows to plot the courses of the stars, and it is said that at certain times the stars of the major constellations are beheld in each window, and the Archai appear in each of the spires in turn. There are numerous rivers which run through Magus Keep, and bridges have been built over every one of them. Each bridge is granted the name of a saint and given special treatment. It is said that so long as the bridges of Magus keep stand, the sanctity of the land will be preserved.

Magus Keep has been allied with old Whytegaard in the past, but it has distanced itself over the past many years. Once the Starkindlers moved to Starreach, Magus Keep became home to monastic brotherhoods devoted to scholarly study. The library at the keep's college is one of the most exclusive but best stocked libraries anywhere. Priests and scholars vie for the privilege of being allowed entry and study time. Magus keep has retained its own group of templars and soldiers since the times of the GodWars. Since it was the first home of the church and the Starkindlers, it was a prime target and superior defenses were needed.

Magus Keep was once the sight of a major offensive by the armies of Maingth. Day and night for seven whole days, the war beasts, soldiers, and magics of the God Elves attempted to break through. The templars defending Magus Keep fought bravely but were nearly wiped out. The artifacts and writings were taken away by the Starkindlers should Magus Keep have fallen, however the families of the soldiers remained within. For this reason, the templars refused to let the walls be breached. When the fighting was finished, few Magus soldiers remained, but no fell creature passed their boundary. It is said that these soldiers were aided by magic forces they had garnered from the books and scrolls contained within the libraries. From them descended the Templars of Magus and the hermetic Mage Knights.

Magus Keep slid from it’s former glory when Whytegaard was made the church center. Now it is devoted to monastic and scholarly studies. Though not as powerful, Whytegaard still sends honor guards to Magus to watch over the Maingth wastes and the Storm Sea in case Maingth should one day return.
