Many travel to Rumi in order to experiment with new and untested technologies. As there is little chance of annoying the neighbors or being bothered by management, it has become an ideal testing ground. However, the lands around Rumi are still dangerous, so mercenaries also travel there to hire out as protection to engineers and scientists whose experiments cannot be carried on within the walls of Rumi. The keeper of the main inn of Rumi, the Tarnwood Inn, maintains small mercenary forces that patrol the area. He often has work for willing mercenaries and is by far the most well off person in Rumi. The inn contains bones in the design of almost all of it’s furniture or trappings. These bones come from the things which hunters and other trappers kill. Some of the bones are rumored to be dragon bones from the defeat of a marauding dragon during the time of Drendamere keep. Many of the Dragon bones and other parts were rumored to have been sold to a Clavian Daimyo as dragon medicine. This is said to be the reason that Tarn, the owner of the Inn made his fortune. He makes his money today off of Windrah Beer. Many of the hops from the safe lands south of Rumi are sent to Rumi by train, and Windrah beer is sent back to be served in the Inn. Hard to get other places Windrah Beer has become a much sought after specialty.

Rumi has been called the Ghost town of the north. Rumi has been called the technical center of Crow. Rumi has been called the hopes of the many families. Rumi has borne many names upon and within it’s walls. Whatever Rumi is now or has been it began as one of the frontier towns associated with Drendamere keep. When the cities and village around them were hit by the Drendamere plague Rumi built a wall with the help of the ogres. This wooden wall made out of tree trunks and large logs seemed to keep out most of the ill effects. Many came to Rumi for help and they posted herbalists and missionaries at the door to determine who was healthy enough to enter. Those who were unhealthy they provided with as much medicine as could be and turned away. When Drendamere fell for good most of the other towns around it went as well. Rumi, being far enough away and protected by the wall, was spared and became the last hope for those within the frontier. Many who brave the frontier lands today still find themselves being chased back to the walls hounded by any one of the numerous foul things which were pushed out of humans lands during the frontier wars. Goblins, Trolls, Orcs and all other manner of thing plague the lands around Rumi. This makes farming very difficult. However Rumi does brisk trade with Windrah providing hunted meats and furs in exchange for grown foods and ales.
