The church of taeos after the god elf wars saw a need for an organization to give the people hope again. Elven warriors from the star kindlers, human lords and nobles, dwarven thanes and animalia of all sorts banded together at the council of whyteford to set forth the charter for the knights of whytegard. It began as a religious organization to train knights and others in the ways of taeos and give the people a sense of unity. It quickly became a training organization in itself as the top weapons masters in the world found themselves brought together in the same place. The desire to test their skills against each other overcame many and tournaments began to be held. Those who were beaten in the tournaments asked those who beat them for extra training and eventually the order of whytegard as it is known today was set in place.
Now those who seek to foster the cause of justice and compassion come to whytegard to train in the martial skills. Those who come to train in the martial skills only often find themselves learning compassion and tolerance and joining the church. Not all of the warriors at whyegard are priests and not all of the priests there are warriors but one can rarely tell by looking at them. Generically the people of whytegard are called priests and paladin knights. The paladin knights are broken into many ranks and can be the stereotypical armored knight, a gun wielding gun angel or an impossibly fast bladesinger. The ranks or whytegard are filled with numerous others who see to the political dealings, troop deployements and special aid causes. When a town or city is in need and asks the church for help often a few specialists from whytegard are sent out to deal with the problem.
Whytegard does conatin a decent number of regular “soldiers” in their employ. Gaurdsmen and confessors as well as regular fighting troops waiting to ascend to the high levels of combat mastery or religious service. When a major problem arises that whytegard decides to get involved in they use these troops and often create a mercenary army or squad. These squads are always led by masters from whytegard. When someone of worth and good moral character is seen they are often asked to come to training classes and begin to learn the ways of whytegard. This is not the only way in though. Often children are sent there as squires and live their lives out learning from the inside out.
